About Harris Personal Training

About

My Story.
 My Mission.

My name is Robbie Harris and I’d personally like to welcome you to Harris Personal Training. I provide in home personal training, and operate a private gym on Capital Blvd. in Raleigh, NC. I am certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and use the NASM-OPT model for training. This model uses the Principle of Specificity, also known as the S.A.I.D. Principle (Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands). S.A.I.D. says that your body will adapt to handle the demands regularly placed on it. If you run consistently, you will begin to be able to run farther. If you lift weights consistently, you will begin to be able to lift more. If you train for a hot dog eating competition, your body will adapt the best it can to eat a lot of hot dogs. Not all demands we could place on ourselves are healthy and safe, so I do a free evaluation on all clients before I let them do a single exercise. This is to ensure they don’t have any underlying muscle imbalances or improper joint mechanics that increases the chance of injury. Something an overwhelming majority of trainers don’t test for, understand how to interpret the tests, or even know they should be actively working to correct. Adding a load to a joint that isn’t moving correctly is dangerous. To learn what demands can and should be put in place, I provide a FREE CONSULTATION and EVALUATION prior to the first session. I want to know what you hope to accomplish by using a trainer. And, I need to know if there are any comorbidities or exercises we should avoid. In the evaluation, it will become apparent if you’re in the right place.

Bio

There is only one staff member at Harris Personal Training, me, Robbie Harris. I received my certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in 2014 and have been helping people meet their fitness goals ever since. I am fully licensed and insured. Until recent events, I was also an active trainer at the Alexander Family YMCA in downtown Raleigh. I’ve trained people from body builders to ballerinas, from elite athletes and Special Forces to people wanting to lose 200 lbs. In addition to general personal fitness training, I’m certified by NASM in MMA Conditioning. Although I do offer self-defense and martial arts classes, Mixed Martial Arts conditioning is about conditioning, not fighting. It is intense and specifically designed to take people to their peak potential. I’m also a certified Group Fitness instructor, so if you like, you can coordinate sessions with a workout buddy to help stay accountable and reduce costs. I work out of a private gym on Capital Blvd. in Raleigh, NC but I can travel if you prefer to work out in the comfort of your own home.
